In Austria, where his parents were then living, Byron writes to Mrs. Harding, thanking her for letters of introduction to “friends in Buda Pest. I am certainly going there in the autumn - and I am certain they will make all the difference - as I hate being in a town without knowing people...” Hopes that her cottage “is progressing satisfactorily,” before closing, “I personally am slowly coming to the conclusion that the monastic life will be one’s last resource, if one is ever to get anything done at all.” Letters from Byron are far from common.
